About Miss Vanderpol! I always knew that I wanted to become a teacher. Looking ahead to my future, I wanted to influence the world by inspiring young children. Recently, my family decided to adopt two girls from China through the Special Needs Program. In the last four years, I have been able to experience working with both a child who has low motor skills as well as a child with visual impairment. Watching them grow and develop has impacted my life tremendously. I have always been interested in becoming an influence in the lives of children, but now I want to serve children who just need a little extra help. I realized I was ready to give of my time, efforts, and heart for the students who need it the most.
As a Western student, I have been continually challenged to shape my perspective and refine my thinking. I have learned how to become an educator and how so much of how we work with students comes from harnessing our passion and working to help them reach their potential. I am confident that my experience, dedication, and compassion will help me grow into becoming a highly effective special education teacher. |
Why assistive technology? |
Our world today is increasing towards innovative technology. As an educator, my expectation of assistive technology in the classroom is to be positive and beneficial towards students' learning. Especially in special education, students are able to communicate, connect, and collaborate through the uses of technology. I think it is important to be educated in the different spheres of technology in order to be an effective teacher that accommodates the needs of the students. I continue to learn and grow more about the different resources available to us through technology.
